Sheep and Shepherds (Elementary)

Elementary

Sheep – SK/Grade 1/2      Shepherds – Gr 3/4

Elementary children meet in The Point room for a large group activity that introduces the day’s lesson and music video songs. Then, the group divides into two age leveled groups where they investigate the bible story further and take part in engaging hands on activities that reinforce the main point.

General Sunday School Information

Children are signed in to the computer by a parent/caregiver, from 10-10:30, at the Check-In desk in the front hall. A name tag is attached to their clothing, with any special instructions or allergy information. If you aren’t able to sign in beforehand, please come to class with your child to sign them in.

Offering envelopes are available at the sign-in desk. The funds collected go toward various mission projects. We have sent school supplies to Kenya, funded a clean water project in Nicaragua and street missions in the Philippines and Sierra Leone, and contribute to the Hope grows Mission.

Children join adults for the first 15 minutes of the church service and are dismissed after the children’s blessing is sung. Grade 5/6 High Voltage Disciples, alternate between Sunday school one week and attending church the next week, to help them become comfortable taking part in the full service.

Well Child Policy

In an effort to keep all children healthy and happy, please do not bring a child in with a communicable illness such as a cough, cold or flu. Children should be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before entering a classroom. If your child has a clear, runny nose, due to allergies, please let us know when you sign them in. Only parents can administer medication.

Curriculum

This year’s Sunday school curriculum is called ‘Dig In’ and is a journey through the bible in a year. There are four teachers and their assistants who eagerly volunteer once a month for each age level. SK to grade 4, meet as a large group, and then with their own age group for the remaining time. 3 year old’s to JK, spend the entire time in the Preschool room. A take-home sheet is sent each week with suggestions of fun ways families can review what the children learn in Sunday school, as well as important announcements.

Snack

All children are offered a snack of goldfish crackers and water near the end of the class. If your child has food allergies, you may provide a labelled alternate dry snack that is peanut –free.

Check Out Time

Children can be picked up at their classrooms at 12:00. Ages/grades are on signs above the doors. If the service finishes early, enjoy some fellowship in the main hall. Please DO NOT go to the classrooms as it distracts children from finishing their activity.
