Doug and Marla Sharpe
Doug and Marla Sharpe have been serving with Youth With A Mission Philippines since 1989. Doug and family, together with the Mobile Discipleship Team pioneered a ministry base and Youth With A Mission training center in Talisay City, Cebu after moving there from Manila in 1993. The training center runs 2 six month live in Discipleship Training Schools yearly with outreaches locally or in Indo-China, hosts foreign outreach teams and maintains children’s ministry in 7 locations among the poor in the Talisay area. As the pioneer Doug has joy in seeing local leadership leading the ministry now and is available to coach and encourage local leaders in their leadership development. Presently, Doug is part of “Team 4″ the National Leadership Team of Youth With A Mission Philippines and contributes his unique giftings to the mix of oversight for the nation. He often speaks at our various Discipleship Training Schools nationally as well as in Indo-China on the topics of Discipleship and The Father Heart of God. Sadly Marla passed away earlier in 2010 after her battle with breast cancer.

Doug has the heart of a Shepherd and is also pastoring “Church of Our King” which is located in Cebu City. Since June 2005 when the leaders approached him to help he has been serving the church which is actively involved in outreaches among the poor and is presently supporting 4 missionaries and one missionary family on the field.

Barron Crawford (IVCF Campus Field Staff – Simon Fraser University)
When we hear the language about satisfying the needs of the oppressed, removing the chains of injustice, feeding the hungry and housing the poor wandered one doesn’t usually think about the university campus. After all, students going to university are most likely affluent to begin with and upon graduation will be some of the highest earners in the country. Yet, as a missionary to Simon Fraser University in British Columbia with Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, I’ve found that the university is a place of spiritual poverty and loneliness. It doesn’t have to be like this. I believe God wants to powerfully change the university culture in our country to one that will produce extraordinary leaders in the Kingdom of God. With the support of Living Hope CRC and a faithful financial and prayer team, we are changing lives on this campus. Our ministry goes beyond sheltering Christians through a ‘troubled’ university landscape, to one that reflects the Kingdom of God as described in the parable of the banquet, where any and all are invited to come and enjoy what Jesus has prepared for them.
