Church in the City

There is something very exciting going on in Peterborough. It’s called Church in the City. At present 20 churches and 11 Christian organizations have agreed together to serve each other and our city for Jesus. There may be differences in our histories, our approaches and even our theologies. But we believe that Jesus is calling us to experience and express our unity in Him so that this city knows that Jesus is Saviour and Lord.

Pastors and leaders come together monthly for prayer. Staffs gather annually for a prayer retreat. Quarterly there is a combined worship service. We are working together to practically witness to our city with the love of Jesus.

Living Hope is proud to be an active member of Church in the City.

Annual Retreat
Every year in November young and old and everyone in between get away for a weekend retreat of games, outdoor activities, teaching and worship. It’s a great time and you’ll meet lots of new friends and grow in your faith.

Book Studies

Young Adult Ministry

We are a community that connects relationally, spiritually and missionally.

Over the summer, our programs will be event driven, with soccer BBQ's, campouts and all kinds of fun stuff.

Through the Fall and Spring semesters, we meet every other week after church, eating great food and having important spiritual discussions that serve to motivate and encourage our spiritual lives. We also serve our community by running an afterschool program at the local public elementary school. Our hope is to provide a real service to families, and build relationships that will translate into the ability to model Christ and speak Christ. We are honoured to do all these things in partnership with our neighbours, Peterborough Free Methodist Church, living in unity with our brothers and sisters.

For more information contact Pastor Dave te Sligte, (705) 740-9293 or dtesligte@livinghope.on.ca

Care

Support Groups
Life seems to be getting more and more complicated. More stress, more issues, more frustration, but less in the area of support. On top of that is the fear of exposure. What if others find out? How will others treat me? Who can I trust? All of these are legitimate concerns when life takes a turn. And the truth is that nobody is immune to the challenges of life. Throughout the year we offer a number of groups in the area of support. Please refer to our Life Group catalogue that comes out in the Fall and Spring. And as always your confidentiality is our priority.

Pastoral Visits
If you would like to explore a spiritual issue or talk to someone about a personal need, there are a number of pastoral care visitors or staff who are here for you. Please contact the church or e-mail Karl at kkuin@livinghope.on.ca

Prayer

Monday Nights
Every Monday night from 7:00-9:00 Kawartha House of Prayer meets in our building to pray for our community.

Thursday Mornings
Every Thursday morning from 7:00-8:00 AM a group meets at City Hall to pray for our city.

Friday Mornings

Life Groups

As humans, we depend on a few core essentials: water sustains our bodies, oxygen invigorates our organs and community nourishes our souls. God intended and designed us to live life together. Our goal is to create casual social environments where lives intersect one another and where the Word of God is explored. Through that interaction we hear each others' stories, learn about supporting one another and see firsthand how God is at work through us and others.

Special Interest Groups
Theses are groups that are generally larger in size (8 - 15 people) and are framed within a 3 - 10 week block. You will be informed of the start date, end date, and topic of focus. This is ideal for people who are 'checking out' group life. It also works well for those who can only commit to a certain time frame or perhaps want to learn about a specific topic. These run in the Fall and Spring.

Cell Groups
These are groups with a little more duration (anywhere from 1 -3 years). In these settings of 6 - 10 people you have a unique opportunity of building long lasting connections with others as you meet every other week. This is ideal for people who are looking for an experience that allows them to grow spiritually with others over a longer term. Topics of study change from one year to another. For more information please contact Karl Kuin at kkuin@livinghope.on.ca

Evangelism

Living Hope believes in evangelism because we believe that Jesus is the only hope of the world. That’s why the mission of our church is:

Jesus is the Hope of the World
Know the Hope
Live the Hope
Share the Hope

We would love to help you know Jesus personally, live for Jesus daily and share Jesus freely with those around you.

As a church we don’t have any “formal” evangelism programs or strategies, other than our own people loving, listening, serving and praying for others. Taking people out for lunch or inviting them to worship some Sunday morning or to one’s small group and encouraging them to put their trust in Jesus is how we understand evangelism. Because faith is a relationship with Jesus we believe that best way to share that faith is through relationships.

To support our people in this ministry we regularly offer classes on evangelism training and twice a year host an Alpha Course. And, of course, on Sunday morning we seek to present the Good News of Jesus in a clear and compelling way.

If you would like to know more about the Christian faith, please contact us at (705) 740-9293 or office@livinghope.on.ca.

Also check out Our Name. This will outline more thoroughly what we believe. And please join us some Sunday morning. We want to be a place where you can belong, believe and become like Jesus.

Education

Mentoring
More and more people are finding it very helpful to develop a relationship with someone who has more experience in the Christian faith. This is a great way to learn more about the Christian faith, both for the person being mentored and the one doing the mentoring.

Living Hope 101
Several times a year we offer this 3-part class for those who wish to discover more about Living Hope. We talk about our history, our faith and our practices. Participants also learn about their spiritual gifts and how they can be used in the community and the church. Those who seek to join the church are asked to Living Hope 101.

Library
Check out our library some time and checkout a book, tape, video or DVD to help you grow in your faith. We have a wide selection for children, youth and adults.

Friendship Group
Friendship Group is a spiritual development ministry for special needs people. The group meets every Tuesday night in Cephas Christian Reformed Church (220 Goodfellow) at 7:30 PM.
