John has had to be very resourceful when trying to repair satellite dishes and other technological gadgets where there is no hardware store for hundreds of miles.

sharpe familyDouglas Sharpe and Family Douglas and Marla Sharpe and family have been serving with Youth With A Mission Philippines since 1989. Doug and family, together with the Mobile Discipleship Team pioneered a ministry base and Youth With A Mission training center in Talisay City, Cebu after moving there from Manila in 1993. The training center runs 2 six month live in Discipleship Training Schools yearly with outreaches locally or in Indo-China, hosts foreign outreach teams and maintains children’s ministry in 7 locations among the poor in the Talisay area. As the pioneer Doug has joy in seeing local leadership leading the ministry now and is available to coach and encourage local leaders in their leadership development. Presently, Doug is part of “Team 4″ the National Leadership Team of Youth With A Mission Philippines and contributes his unique giftings to the mix of oversight for the nation. He often speaks at our various Discipleship Training Schools nationally as well as in Indo-China on the topics of Discipleship and The Father Heart of God. Sadly Marla passed away earlier in 2010 after her battle with breast cancer.

Doug has the heart of a Shepherd and is also pastoring “Church of Our King” which is located in Cebu City. Since June 2005 when the leaders approached him to help he has been serving the church which is actively involved in outreaches among the poor and is presently supporting 4 missionaries and one missionary family on the field.

An Update From Doug

I traveled from Toronto to Cebu on January 18 until the 30th for the national leaders consultation hosted at the YWAM base we pioneered. Over a hundred leaders gathered from all over the Philippines for four days of worship, fellowship and empowerment in their leadership. It was at this gathering that the leadership transition of YWAM Philippines from Rheo Leseo to myself was announced. There was such a positive atmosphere among the leaders as I shared my heart for the future. I was so glad I made this trip and went away greatly affirmed and confirmed in God’s direction for me. I feel the Lord has definitely ordered my steps and given me the privilege to serve the nation and people I love in a greater capacity. The second time I traveled to the Philippines was for my official induction as the new national chairman of YWAM Philippines held at our national staff conference in Manila. The added bonus was a special family reunion with Marla’s side of the family. Five of my brother and/or sisters in law were celebrating their 50th birthdays and this was a great excuse to organize a trip where we could connect as family, enjoy each other and do things we wouldn’t do otherwise. I was able to take Amanda out of school and she travelled with me. The advantage of both trips was that I got to see Jonina who has been continuing her studies in Cebu at this time. Prayer Points:

•Our continued healing as a family as we grieve our different losses.

•God’s continued grace as I transition together with Amanda back to the Philippines.

•Marla always prayed Psalm 78:72 for me. That I would have a heart of integrity and skillful hands to lead. Please pray for my new role as National Chairman of YWAM Philippines.

•Please pray for the boys as they embark on new chapters in their life.

•With all my travel and our different transitions God’s provision is greatly needed.

Thank you for always standing by my family and I through life’s ups and downs. We are eternally grateful. Lots of Love, Doug and the kids
